Financial services specialist Intermarket Communications, which enjoyed its 20th anniversary in 2006, had plenty to celebrate. In the words of Managing Partner Martin Mosbacher, who runs the financial services specialist, the firm ?switched gears? about five years ago, and has been averaging 15 percent growth ever since.
Prior to founding Intermarket (originally known as Trimedia) Mosbacher worked at Commodity Exchange, the world?s leading metals future exchange, where he was director of public relations . For most of its formative years, the firm more or less focused exclusively on the derivatives marketplace and was content to stay small-fee income in 1999 was just under $1 million. But over the past few years, Intermarket has expanded its focus, with a heavy emphasis on financial technology, and today clients include global market places and exchanges, leading buy-side and sell-side institutions, banks, alternative investment providers, technology and professional service providers, as well as government and industry organizations. The expanded focus has helped the firm surpass $5 million in fees and establish itself as the leading financial services specialist in the New York market.
Mosbacher surrounded himself with a strong senior team: another managing partner Andy Yemma, joined in 1999 after serving as vice president for media relations at the New York Stock Exchange, and there are five other senior officers. The average tenure of the senior staff is ten years. Clients stick around too: five clients have been with the firm for 10 years or more. The full list includes Charles Schwab, Keefe Bruyette & Woods, The Swiss Bankers Association, Bank Julius Baer, and ICAP, many of which view Intermarket as an extensions of their in-house communications and marketing departments.
As the financial services sector grows increasingly global, Intermarket has access to international markets through membership in GFC/Net, a network of firms dedicated to serving the financial markets that includes some of Europe?s best independent PR firms, including Fishburn Hedges in London and Interel in Brussels.
